The inaugural Tri for the Shelter youth triathlon will be held at Rocky Mountain Recreation Area, just north of Rome, Georgia on Sunday morning, June 19, 2011. The event is USAT sanctioned and open to all kids ages 7 to 14. Children ages 7-9 will complete a 50-yard swim off of a zero-entry sand beach at Antioch Lake West, a 2.4-mile bike ride on Big Texas Valley Road and a .5-mile run within the park area. Participants ages 10-14 will complete a 100-yard swim, 4.8-mile bike ride and 1-mile run. Finisher medals, t-shirts and goody bags for all participants! (A limited number of scholarships are available) All proceeds from the race will benefit the William S. Davies Homeless Shelter of Rome, GA. Come to have fun, race hard and enjoy a great accomplishment in completing your first or more triathlon!
