Genesee County Habitat for Humanity

Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (Genesee Habitat) is one of nearly 1,200 United States affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, which was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, with the vision of eliminating poor housing conditions and homelessness from the world.  Since then, Habitat for Humanity has maintained that vision by incorporating both housing and community development in its mission of building homes, communities and hope.

Founded in 1990, Genesee Habitat, yearly builds or rehabs 8-10 affordable homes in Genesee County, provides approximately 100 Genesee County homeowners with critical repair services, and invests in numerous neighborhood projects throughout the City of Flint. Genesee Habitat also operates the ReStore, which offers greatly discounted new or slightly used household items to the public, diverting 300 tons a year from Genesee County landfills. Additionally, in partnership with LISC, Genesee Habitat opened the Financial Opportunity Center, where Genesee County residents can receive financial coaching and job preparedness assistance, free of charge.
